About Shift It Man and Van Removals
We're Rob and James, the father-and-son team behind Shift It Man and Van Removals, based in Longbridge in South Birmingham. We move homes, flats, offices and furniture across Birmingham and the West Midlands, and every job is done by the two of us.
How Shift It Started
Shift It began in 2019 as an idea Rob had that year. Before that, he spent years working in window fitting and the glazing industry. He started the business on his own, and his son James came on board a few years later. Since then it's been the two of us on every move.
The name? It's our own twist on "move it". Short, simple, and exactly what we do.
Why a Glazier Makes a Good Remover
Years of fitting windows and glass teach you to be careful around doors, frames and anything fragile, and to measure twice before you lift anything. It's also why we're happy to take on the jobs other movers turn down, like sofas that won't fit through the door. When there's no other way in, we can take a door off or temporarily remove a window to get it inside. See our furniture removals page for how that works.
It's Always the Two of Us
When you book Shift It, you get Rob and James. We don't use subcontractors or agency staff, and we don't send whoever happens to be free. The people who give you the price are the people who turn up on the day, so you always know who's handling your belongings.
Nothing Is Too Much Trouble
We've both worked in customer service, and it shows in how we work. We answer the phone ourselves, reply quickly, and go the extra mile on the day, whether that's rebuilding a bed, carrying a piano up four steps, or fitting a last-minute job in. As one customer put it:
"Nothing was too much and went above and beyond to get this sorted."

What We Move
-
Small house removals for 1 and 2 bed homes
-
Same-day moves, subject to availability
We use one 19m³ Luton van with an electric tail lift, and we only move homes, offices and furniture. We never take waste or rubbish, so the van is always clean.
Moves for Charities and Support Organisations
We regularly move furniture and belongings for local charities and support organisations, including moves for people who are being supported through a difficult time. Every job like this is handled quietly, carefully and confidentially.

We're rated 5.0 from 460+ reviews on Google, plus 74 on Bark, 60 on Facebook and 56 on Yell, all 5 out of 5. That's 650+ five-star reviews across four sites. Read a selection on our reviews page.
